Walking For A Cure

As most of you had probably known, I participated in the CF Walk in Provo this year.  It took place on June 1st by Seven Peaks.  Everything for that day turned out better than I could have ever hoped for.  Seriously, I had the same conversation with my sweet husband probably ten times throughout the day of how blessed I am for the people I have in my life.  I was constantly in awe, and overwhelmed by the love and support I received throughout the day.

I am blessed people. Blessed.

Even though we put the team together a little later than most, we were still able to raise a significant amount of money that went toward the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  With the help of many friends, family, and even strangers we were able to raise just under $3,000.  I got donations daily, and every single one almost brought me to tears.  I couldn't believe the generosity of some people.

As an FYI, 90 cents out of a dollar is donated directly to the CF Foundation.  That money has been being used very wisely as now there are many, many amazing advancements in medicine for Cystic Fibrosis.  In my lifetime the life expectancy of a CF patient has practically doubled; as of last year a new drug called Kalydeco was approved for patients to take that is the closest thing to a cure so far.  Like I've mentioned many times I am not able to take it because I don't have the correct mutations of CF, but they are working on mine RIGHT NOW!  With the help of all the amazing people that donated, I may just be able to take a cure for CF during my lifetime.  It gives me chills everytime I think about it!  It seemed impossible 22 years ago, and now it's going to be the next big thing!

It was ironic because when I started planning the walk and inviting people to walk with me, Iowa Western was doing a big alumni event in Sandy that same day.  At first I was so sad that I wouldn't be able to do both, and that I would have to choose between the alumni game/ReAl game or the CF Walk.  Well it turned out that all the times for everything lined up perfectly and I was able to do everything!  It made for a long day, but it was a perfect day.  Everything went so smooth and I was able to spend time with all my loved ones and see all my old friends that I played with in Iowa!  I seriously couldn't have asked for a better day!

Be prepared for a massive amount of pictures!  The day was perfect, and we wanted to make sure we captured as much of it as possible.

The Alumni Game
I never thought the day would come so soon that I was considered one of the "old" alumni's, but the day came.  We played old against new/upcoming players, and yes my team did lose!  But it was still so much fun!  I had a blast playing with everyone again!

The girls from my freshman year!
My cousin Katie just got a scholarship to play at Iowa Western and so she got to play in the alumni game against me!  i'm so excited and proud of her!

The ReAl Game!
After the alumni game we got to go to a BBQ and then watch the ReAl game.  It was awesome!  Most everyone that was at the CF Walk with me came to the game also, so it was a blast!  The players got side lines passes and we had the privilege of going down on the field while the teams warmed up!  It was pretty cool!

My family and I camped for the whole weekend such it was such a busy day.  That night after the game we all crashed to say the least.  Then we woke up the next morning and had a yummy breakfast, took our time getting ready and headed home!
My sweet grandma that was sick all weekend :(  I felt so bad that she wasn't able to come to anything, but we still got to spend lots of time with her!
And of course, little Jack with my necklace on!  He's so spoiled!
I can't believe how fast the day came and went.  I guess it's true when you say that time flys when you're having fun!  Like I mentioned earlier, I was constantly in awe by the massive amount of support and love I received the whole weekend!  I couldn't ask for a better support system.  Doing treatments and taking pills everyday is a little bit easier when I think about all the people cheering me on.  It's not easy, but taking care of myself is worth it so I can spend time with all the ones I love!  Thanks to everyone who made this day so special!  It's one that I will never forget!
